Dear Friend,

This time of year always feels like the worst. You probably have just gotten back to campus after a Thanksgiving break with family and friends, and now the anticipation (or dread) of finals is hanging over your head. If you’re anything like me, you might also be realizing how much you didn’t do to prepare during that break.

Finals are tough, and that’s okay to admit. For me, this finals season feels especially bittersweet. I’m graduating in two weeks, and while I’m excited to move forward, let’s just say getting there is going to take some serious perseverance. Finals are important, but so is your peace of mind—and God cares about both.

This season isn’t just about getting through the exams; it’s also an opportunity to invite God into the process. Whether you’re feeling burnt out, anxious, or just ready for it all to be over, His presence can bring peace, strength, and clarity to your finals week.

Here are some tips for inviting God into your finals season:

  1. Start with Prayer
Before you dive into your books or notes, take a moment to pray. Ask God for focus, clarity, and perseverance. A simple prayer like, “Lord, be with me in my work and help me to trust in You,” can make a big difference.
  2. Offer Your Work up to God
View your studies as a way to glorify Him. Even in the little things—writing a paper, studying for tests—you can dedicate your efforts to God.
  3. Use Scripture for Encouragement
Keep a few Bible verses on hand (on sticky notes, your phone, or even your notebook) to ground yourself when stress starts to creep in. Some of my favorites:

    • “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
    • “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”(Matthew 11:28)
    • “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
  4.  Take Breaks
Finals can feel like a race, but don’t forget to pause. Step outside, go for a walk, or sit in silence to reconnect with God and recharge your spirit.
  5.  Go to Mass or Adoration
Carve out time for Mass or a visit to Adoration, even during finals week. Spending time in God’s presence can calm your heart and remind you that He’s in control.

As you step into this season, I encourage you to take this prayer with you:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the opportunity to learn and grow through these exams. I pray for focus and clarity as I study, and for peace in moments of stress. Help me to trust You with the results, knowing that You have a plan for my life. Give me strength to persevere, rest when I need it, and faith that Your grace is sufficient for me. I offer this finals week to You. May Your will be done. Amen.

Trust that God is more concerned with your growth and reliance on Him than your GPA. Your identity is not in your grades—it’s in Him. Remember, God is with you every step of the way. You’ve got this—because He’s got you.
